Finessing the Proposal (Editing for consistency)

  • Logline - 4 pieces of information that aren't actually in the treatment are in the logline which causes inconsistency. My on the spot idea "Forever alone, Pavo risks it all on a fancy first date. Will it be smooth sailing or will he struggle to stay afloat."
  • Synopsis - similar to logline, some bits of information not relevant to a synopsis.
  • Target Audience - G rating scares off teens and the general expectation is a female swayed romance story.
  • Add visuals into the proposal document from the start, need to keep the reader engaged and convey the concept even if someone only skims it.
  • Character Bio pages - several different style images are included when it should be a finished piece of concept art of the character.
  • Style frames - finished movie frame that show lighting, style.
  • Only offer elements that you are willing to work on for the final product.
  • Mood boards are fine in proposals as long as the accompanying concept art is complete, concise and consistent style. Be careful with mood board styling, use film aspect for the images, have it in concept order so the reader can follow the story.
The biggest thing still that I think is the elephant in the room is Communication. Tutor feedback:
  • Communication is not what it should be, teams did not have clear outcomes to work on, ppl all just worked on what they wanted to which doesn't help the consistency and also creates a lot of assets that wont be used and the time could have been used on something more productive. Clear instructions/directives and constant feedback cycles need to be in place to make sure things are progressing correctly.
I 100% agree with this observation. Its been quite hard to find something to focus on so far but I'm hoping that moving forward we will be able to set up a clear line of communication with direct goals, so that we all know what to work on without unnecessary overlap and wasted man hours. I'm not sure if it is just inexperience in working on a cohesive group project or misunderstanding of what is required of each person and their role.

I have been put in charge of making the 3D restaurant bathroom off Thomas' 2D concept art for the proposal due at 5 today.

I'm lost at this point. Everyone seems to be doing just random things and there is no specific direction as to what our individual area is in terms of creation. I'm hoping once the proposal is in, there will be a clear directive of what each person works on, because the current system is chaos in terms of people separately working on creating their version of the same parts of the project.

Discussing with Patrick about the future, I have shelved my plans to work on Colour Party next semester and instead I will create a 2D pick a path game with an angle towards improving skills that Runaway Play would be keen to take on board. This means researching camera angles, lighting and composition for 2D animation as it is my weak spot.

RIP https://bakersten.wixsite.com/bexa - due to Wix not sending me the 2FA code, I cannot log in to update my website. From what I have read many people have the same issue with the customer service team so at this point IF I get a reply I will be deleting my account. Thus I need to find a new place to create an online portfolio. One more thing to add to the to-do list.

My short bio for the Meet the Team on the website

Mucking around with a basic table shape to export into photoshop 3D and have a play around with texturing there. I started in Substance painter with random textures purely to show the borders of each UV in the .png file and will see whether editing that file or moving into the 3D workspace is more effective. Looking at the UV I think I forgot to unwrap the table top properly so I will need to g back in and fix it before porting to photoshop.

Interviewed for positions in the project today. I'm hoping I become part of the asset creation team as I feel it will be the most beneficial to my learning in terms of what I want for the future. I do feel a little demotivated as the actual project is just the same old thing we have done for the last couple years, hard to compete with people that love sitting in the comfort zone however. Just got to make the best of it and focus on what skills I can learn instead of the actual subject itself.

Budget showreel, but on the plus side I got to play with new software Pinnacle Studio 24. I got it as part of a humble bundle and didnt think I would use it however Resolve kept crashing and this was a good alternative.
