Audio 5/6

Got my tutorial tasks handed in. I managed to break my portable hard drive on the way home so I had to basically re-do half of them but I got it done. Thank god for backups. Im still uncertain on how to do things but I think I fudged my way through so far. I need more practice I think.

Audio 29/5

I left my hard drive at home so I ended up working on my 3D character that was due in at 5pm today. I dont have too much left for my tutorials to hand in next week which is good, thanks to the homework over lockdown.

Audio 8/5

Export two versions of the class video, 1 with new music, 1 with new foley sounds. Use royalty free sounds/music with Premiere and upload both to youtube as unlisted for next friday. Fingers crossed we are back in class soon.

Audio 1/5

1st class back.

Cleaning up audio.

First step is removing any unwanted audio then consolidate clips to a single track per person. Holding shift stops the clips moving to either side when shifting tracks. Alt is to select single parts of a clip instead of the entire clip.

Ideal sound should be sitting around -12dB.

My group is: Zeta-Rose, David, Me, Jordyn

Audio Spotting

Spotting, or sound mapping, is watching footage(or reading a script) and writing down what sounds are needed and when.

The Big Five:

  1. Dialogue
  2. Ambience
  3. Sound Effects
  4. Foley
  5. Music

also Room tone.

Audio 20/3

The iLok needs to stay in the same USB slot(2nd slot down in my barnyard pc). Since they still arent working properly, we worked on ADR recording with the zoom and shotgun mics. Got most of the initial Foley sound recorded for our video replacement project, now for the fun task of naming all the clips.

Audio 13/3

Edit clips in a new sequence by dragging the files down to the New Item icon. Make sure snapping is off when rearranging audio. To nudge, hold alt while audio clip is selected to move the track left or right 1 frame using arrow keys. Once synced, select both clips right click and merge clips.

Ctrl + mousewheel to scroll up and down in the timeline. Ctrl+Shift+D for a basic crossfade when selected between two audio clips. Parametric equalizer for the sound adjustments preferably.

Export from Premiere as .OMF to swap it to ProTools.

Audio 6/3

Boot camp meant we had no tutor today. I spent the class working on assignments and handing in the pitch bible for animation. Soundscape will be my next focus.

Audio 28/2

Today was filming the short film that we will be using for our first assessment in terms of creating a soundscape. Bit of fun, good intro for the animators that will be doing compositing next semester. Definitely flashbacks to the cert year with Ash and our film class. Gotta remember the piece of media to analyse in class next week also.

Audio 21/2

Todays class was a bit broken due to a group of us travelling to the main campus to hear from the Prime Minister Scholarship speaker in regards to the 8 week China experience hopefully next year. The majority of the information was focused around individual applications and not so much the group application that my class will be going through. Rachel has said that in the next couple of weeks we will have more specific information sessions so that will be a good help towards my decision as to whether I actually apply for it or not.

In regards to actual Audio class work, Chris ran us through using the zoom mic and sound kits since James was away this week. Other than that it was just working on something project related due to the amount of class we were missing.

Sounds

Foley

Sounds that are created by recording human movement in time with the picture. Different from background noises. ie footsteps, prop movement, clothing rustling etc.

Music

Score - prepared by a composer
Source Music - music coming from devices in the film ie radios, tv's, concerts etc
Songs - Additional music added to the film score.

Ben Burke - look up

Homework: Find a piece of media that I really like to analyse in class in 2 weeks time.

PAL = 25fps 50hz (NZ)
NTSC = 30fps 60hz (USA)

Must bring headphones to class every week.

EQ is most used effect, Parametric EQ best one to go for. Must match the channel that the audio actually is in.

Right click the word parametric and hit edit.

Second most used effect is Reverb, Studio reverb for this class.

Third is Time and Pitch Shift
